So we are now just a couple of days short of the final weekend of Cricket in Clontarf and what a final weekend we have ahead of us. Almost every game is of huge importance.
First, Tonight
Game 1 – This evening at 5.30 in Malahide CC the Women’s first team play the League Final against Rush. After going 7 for 7 in the league can the finish the job? Be there to find out.
Super Sports Saturday
Game 2 – On Saturday at 12 in Rush the Women’s 2nds play their League final in Rush against Pembroke. The Women had had a great season no matter what happens in these two games and very special thanks has to go to all involved but especially to Fiona for all her work and efforts behind the scenes and to Hanna and Declan whose dedication and coaching has helped the 2 sides to come on leaps and bounds. Exciting times ahead.
Game 3 – The Men’s Firsts travel to the Hills on Saturday to complete their league program. This was almost going to be a title decider, but Leinster made sure that wasn’t to be. Their form over the 2nd half of the season was incredible and last Saturday they deservedly secured the 2017 Division 1 title. I’m sure you’ll all join me in congratulating them and achieving what is simply the hardest job in Leinster cricket. Well Done Leinster
Game 4 – The 2nds travel to Malahide for a 12 start on Saturday. They have had a tough League season and go into this game 2nd from bottom. But, they play the bottom side. This game is huge. They are coming off back to back wins and will hope to extend this run through Saturday and Sunday
Game 5 – The Thirds are in the Bull Ring where they host Adamstown at 12.30 on Saturday. This is simple, a win here and they are Division 5 Champions, anything less than that will leave the door ajar for Longford to swoop in
Super Sports Sunday
Game 6 – The Seconds are back in action, this time in the Bull Ring where they host The Hills in the 2nd of their big weekend
Game 7 – The 4ths travel to Swords for their final game of the year which is a refix for an earlier rained off game in May. This is even simpler than the 3rds. Win this and they win Division 8, anything less and the don’t!
Game 8 – The Fifths Cup Final
Malahide are hosting the game of the weekend where the 5ths take on Lucan in the refixed Cup Final. Mickey’s Men go again. We have talked about this side a lot, their young players have been brilliant and their older heads have been great. The is a well-balanced side who’s effort have taken them a long way, on Sunday we’ll know if it takes them all the way. This one is unmissable!
So, to summarize, 3 Finals, 2 league deciders and a relegation battle. Possibly the single most exciting finish* we have ever had
*The 2nds have a double weekend next week away to the Hills and away to Merrion. More on that next week along with a team by team season summary
