Upcoming Fixtures

We’re in the height of it now and a lot of cricket to be played and watched this week.

We kick off on Thursday with the Women’s Firsts taking on Phoenix at home at 6.30pm

Saturday is a big day with round one of the 20-20 bash in Terenure.

We are first up at 10.45 with The Hills providing the opposition, then at about 5.15 we take on the hosts Terenure. Both games promise to be high scoring affairs.

Away from the Firsts, the Thirds host Leinster 3rd in the Bull Ring in what is always a close game in Division 5 and the Fifths make their way to the Vineyard to take on The Hills Fourths and enjoy some of the best tea’s in the province. Both 1pm starts

Sunday provides with more big games and more good cricket

The Seconds go to Merrion in the Senior 2 cup quarter final. They’ve had a mixed start to the league but their cup form has been good with a 10 wicket win in round one. Merrion are a top side and this will be worth watching. 1pm start

The Fourths make their way to Swords hoping to continue their league form against a side aiming to do the same!!

In the Bull Ring the 6th team start their cup campaign. They have made the last 2 finals and round 1 see’s our good friends Malahide pay a visit.

On Monday we have more Cup cricket.  The Seconds host Laois in the Semi Final for the 20-20. We won this last year are on Monday will be trying to make it to finals day for the second year in a row. 6 pm start

Lastly on Tuesday we have a Division one re-fix against Pembroke at 6pm. In the league game we had Pembroke about 180 for 8, since then Pembroke have two top players back in their ranks with Andy Balbirine and L Tucker returning plus have started to find their form of last year with Lawson and Cutler both scoring heavily in recent games. This will provide a big challenge and will be a cracker for a game

Hope to see you and some of the games this week

We are delighted to welcome Bradley Barnes to Clontarf as overseas player/coach for the 2017 season. Brad will take up the role vacated by Charlie Wakim who is remaining in Australia during his off season, we thank him for his contribution to the club last year and wish him well.

Brad comes to us as a level 3 coach currently working with the highly rated Bishops College in Cape Town and as a  former professional player with KwaZulu-Natal, Western Province and franchise team The Dolphins as well as taking part in South Africa’s U-19 World Cup campaign in 2008 which eventually ended in defeat to the Virat Kohli captained India team.

At the tender age of 28 he has played in 125 provincial games scoring 3,735 runs across all formats including 3 hundreds and 24 fifties. He has also managed 283 dismissals as wicket keeper during this time.

Chairperson of cricket Dereck McGeehan commented “we are delighted to welcome Brad to Clontarf. He has a tremendous track record as a player and more importantly as a coach, having attained level 3 qualification. We feel that he will be a great addition to the club as a whole and that he helps us to continue the great strides the club has been making. Finally, I wish to offer a sincere thanks to Steven Hirst from CricX for the role he has played in assisting in securing Brad’s services for 2017.”
