The 150th Anniversary Gala Ball: How We Got Here
Every great night needs a great story behind it, and the Anniversary Gala Ball on June 26th is no different. Here’s a look behind the curtain at how this one came together.
The 150th Anniversary sub-committee spent considerable time debating where to host the ball and what shape it should take. After much discussion and no shortage of opinions from the membership, the decision was made to host it onsite at the club. It felt like the only real answer. Where better to celebrate 150 years of Clontarf Cricket Club than at Clontarf Cricket Club?
From there, the pieces began to fall into place. We secured our preferred marquee partner, and on the entertainment front, we are absolutely delighted to welcome the award winning DJandSax, who will have everyone on their feet well into the early hours.
Along the way we have been lucky to have some wonderful friends of the club step forward. Stephen Teeling of Teeling Whiskey has very generously offered to provide cocktails for a drinks reception beforehand, which sets the tone nicely for the evening ahead. We have also had many kind individuals offer to donate raffle prizes and if you have ideas on this front or would like to contribute, please do get in touch.
One of the bigger challenges along the way was sourcing food. Costs in the catering industry have risen sharply in recent years, and so we took our time engaging with multiple providers to find the right balance of quality, value and local presence. We are pleased to have landed on Kinara as our catering partner.
With everything in place, attention turned to pricing. Given the age profile of our playing membership, it was important to us that younger members are well represented on the night, and so we agreed a tiered approach: €125 for a full price ticket and €80 for students over 18. When you factor in the drinks reception, wine, food from Kinara, entertainment from DJandSax, and the fact that we get to mark this historic occasion in our own club, we genuinely believe this represents exceptional value. It’s also worth noting that the goal of the night is not to turn a profit. It is simply to celebrate 150 years of history together, and so the event is designed to cover its own costs and nothing more.
