New club coach

We at Clontarf CC are today delighted to announce the signing of John Mooney as our new club Head Coach. John is one of Ireland’s greatest ever cricketers having represented the national side on 182 occasions.

Since retiring from playing at the top level John has focused on developing his strength and conditioning business as well as coaching with the Danish international team.

Commenting on the signing Director of Cricket Dereck McGeehan said “we believe John was the outstanding candidate to replace Alex as our head coach and I’m delighted to have him onboard. John impressed with his ambition, enthusiasm and passion for his new role. I’m sure all club members will join with me in wishing John every success and welcoming him, along with his wife Helena and daughters Alisha & Robyn to the club.”

On his appointment to the role, John commented that he is “delighted to join one of Ireland’s long established and best known clubs and (is) very much looking forward to starting the new role and the next chapter of (his) career.”

As well as taking the role of head coach, John will also be available to play for the club as and when required.

In further news, we are delighted to also welcome Irish citizen by way of Johannesburg, Declan Gallagher, to the club. Declan has been in superb form for the Randburg club having scored 78 not out on his premier league debut last weekend as well as four hundreds in the 2nd team this season.

Declan will be moving to Ireland full time and we ask all members to do everything you can to help him settle in and to make this move a great success for him.

We hope to add the signing of our new overseas player to these exciting additions in the coming weeks.
